Minimum Inhibitory concentration AST Kits

Erba Mannheim Mikrolatest MIC AST kits allow for the quantitative determination of minimum inhibitory concentration of antibiotics in preselected panels.
This testing is based on broth micro-dilution methods that measures quantitatively in vitro activity of an antimicrobial agent against a bacterial isolate. The minimum inhibitory concentration is determined from a twofold dilution series (8 total concentrations) as the lowest concentration of an antimicrobial agent that prevents visible growth of a microorganism.
Determination of MIC enables interpretation into three categories (according to EUCAST):
  1. Sensitive - microorganism defined as susceptible by a level of antimicrobial activity associated with a high probability of therapeutic success.
  2. Intermediate - microorganism defined as intermediate by a level of antimicrobial activity associated with uncertain therapeutic effect.
  3. Resistant  - microorganism defined as resistant by a level of antimicrobial activity associated with a high probability of therapeutic failure.

In your hands

You may be wondering, these sound interesting but what do they actually look like in use?

Here is a (very old) photo of a Colistin MIC AST kit with P. aeruginosa. Even though the kits have changed over time, the result will still look the same.

Oof owie, my neck hurts!

Good news! We can provide you with this viewer!

As you can see from the photograph there is an adjustable mirror with slight amplification to make reading your MIC tests easier with less ergonomic strain.
