P. jirovecii is the causative agent of Pneumocystis Pneumonia (PCP), one of the most common and most severe opportunistic infections in immunocompromised people. It is still debated whether PCP is the result of reactivation of a latent childhood infection or a de novo infection.
Of particular interest for hygiene management is that nosocomial patient-to-patient transmission has been shown to be possible. In order to be able to treat a patient with PCP as quickly as possible, eazyplex® Pneumocystis jirovecii can be performed from bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), bronchial secretions (BS) and tracheal secretions (TS) without DNA extraction. The complete result is displayed in real time and delivered as a result report after 25 minutes.
